5 Things We Don’t Do at Miami Pilates

Our goal at Miami Pilates is to create a safe space that empowers you to learn, grow and create a consistent workout routine that can be practiced for years to come - avoiding injury along the way. Below is a list of things we will never do at our studio.

  1. Comment on appearance

Pilates is a mindful method of movement designed to improve strength, flexibility, mobility and overall body awareness. We are not here to put focus on the physical - although yes, with consistency and discipline, your body will change. We want to focus on the strength that you will build by continuing to take classes with us - holding your planks longer, lunging deeper, and overall feeling healthier and more balanced in your body and mind. those are the real benefits of this practice, the physical is just an added bonus. We strive to create an encouraging environment that allows clients to look deeper than their physical appearance and leave class feeling empowered.

  2. Promote weight loss

There is no magic pill to looking lean and toned. Results come from exercise, diet and lifestyle. We believe that pilates is an important pillar of your wellness journey and exercise is a non negotiable for longevity and peace of mind, but you will have to stay consistent with your routine and look at all the pillars of wellness to find long term solutions for your health goals. Classes at Miami Pilates combined with cardio (low impact walking is a favorite), a healthy balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, getting an adequate amount of sleep, fresh air, healthy relationships with loved ones and practicing mindfulness are all equally important to achieving a quality lifestyle and pilates alone is not enough.

  3. Teach you something we have never tried ourselves

At Miami Pilates, we always test our routines before teaching them and we spend hours workshopping our classes. In order to properly cue timing, form and technique, we must feel every exercise in our body ourselves before we ask you to do something. Not only does that make us as instructors feel more confident teaching, but we want our clients to feel absolutely safe knowing that there has been experience and thoughtfulness put into every sequence.

  4. Practice outside our scope

We have many clients with injuries that have been recommended pilates. We love to welcome everyone to our studio but we also know our limitations. We know when to turn clients away due to surgeries, injuries and medical conditions that we know Pilates cannot heal. We always recommend you to be cleared by your doctor to workout with us to have the best long term results so that we can help you reach your fitness and rehabilitation goals effectively.

  5. Tell you pilates will solve all of your problems

We wish it did, but it won’t. But it sure is a fun way to get your exercise in, meet like-minded people, develop community and motivate yourself to exercise. We think scheduling a group class is super motivating and a lot more fun than working out at home alone. It is also a lot easier to turn your mind off when you have a knowledgable, experienced instructor guiding you through your movement rather than trying to figure out how to workout on your own. We can’t wait to see you in class!
